HOW TO BREW SPECIALTY COFFEE WITH A FRENCH PRESS - BOGDAN GEORGESCU'S METHOD

The sensational authentic experience you enjoy in every cup at the coffee shop can now be brought right into your home. As quickly as you can say French Press.

There’s nothing more enjoyable than coming to the coffee shop, choosing your favorite coffee, and experimenting with different brewing methods at home. This way, you’ll discover the magic and ritual behind each brewing method and how they influence the coffee’s final taste.

Today, we aim to show you step-by-step how you can make excellent French Press coffee right in your own home. However, we've prepared a slightly more special recipe where we'll use the French Press in a way you might not expect. Normally, when brewing coffee with a French Press, you gently press the plunger so that the ground coffee remains at the bottom of the pot. Well, today we won't press the plunger; we'll leave it as is. This method is called “no press French Press” and it's a method where the coffee infuses for 10 minutes, which will give the drink super clarity and taste.

It’s a super simple, quick, and convenient method to prepare a flavorful specialty coffee at home. Our recipe yields two cups of coffee, so you can easily take the second one to-go. As we mentioned at the beginning, it's important to constantly experiment with coffee, which is why we advise you to try the no-press French Press as soon as possible. You'll be surprised by the entire sensory experience that will transport you through aromas and vibrant notes in every cup of coffee.

Shall we get started? First, let's see what we need for a specialty coffee made with a French Press

- French Press

- Your favorite coffee (30g) we recommend a coffee with a more special processing method, such as EL PLACER, a co-fermented coffee with red fruits.

- Filtered water: try as much as possible not to use tap water as it will negatively affect the final taste of the brew.

- Manual or automatic grinder: so important in the brewing process to ensure you retain all the volatile aromas of the coffee in your cup, which are normally lost within the first 30 seconds after grinding.

- Server: the container into which the coffee drains.

- Kettle or electric water heater

- Timer

- Scale

Brewing time!

1. The first step is to coarsely grind 30g of coffee.

2. Remove the plunger from the French Press and place the container on the scale.

3. Turn on the scale, place the French Press vessel, and add 30g of coarsely ground coffee.

4.  Start the timer and pour 500ml of water over the freshly ground coffee. Let the coffee infuse for 4 minutes.

5. After 4 minutes, break the crust that has formed on top and stir all the particles on the surface thoroughly.

6. Now, take two teaspoons and collect all the foam that has formed on top.

7. Place the French Press plunger back (but do not press it) and let the coffee rest for 10 minutes.

8. After 10 minutes, pour the coffee into two cups and enjoy all the vibrant notes and aromas of the coffee.

Mmm, we can already smell the unmistakable aroma of a freshly prepared cup of coffee at home. We hope you can too. And especially, we hope it will inspire you to prepare an excellent specialty coffee at home.

As you’ve seen in this brew guide, you don't need many ingredients and tools to brew your coffee at home. It’s extremely easy to bring the coffee shop experience to your home. We encourage you to experiment with this brewing method using as many types of coffee as possible: with different processing methods, growing regions, and roasting profiles. This will help you discover new taste profiles and, why not, distinguish the differences in taste, aroma, body, and acidity in each coffee.

A kind of cupping at home.
